Whose Road is it Anyway??

Recently I read in the papers how people are not willing to help others involved in serious road accidents...n it bought back an old memory....

This happened when i was in 2nd or 3rd standard...n we lived in Arjun Vihar near Dhaula Kuan in Delhi....We used to go for walks on the main road just outside the place…It was a busy road and our favorite past time used to be counting the numbers of cars n bikes passing through each light....At one point there was a huge crater in the middle of the (extremely well paved..) road and people on two wheelers used to realize at the very last moment and swerved out of the way....One of them on a scooter (and luckily wearing a helmet...which wasn't compulsory on Delhi roads at that time..) wasn't that lucky on that particular night when we were walking...n took the crater at high speed and bumped and fell down a short distance away. With a head injury...the guy was badly hit... Dad somehow managed to bring him and his scooter to the footpath in the middle of traffic n then tried to flag down a car to take him to a hospital which wasn't very far away...but none of the drivers stopped…afraid of being caught up in some police case...because if you bring a guy to the hospital the first question people ask is "Why did you bring him here?? Must have been your car that hit him?? Etc..."

After some time dad managed to finally flag down an army vehicle...but even those guys weren't very keen to help...After Dad told them that he too was from the Air Force, they finally took Dad n the guy to the hospital...Dad somehow got his phone no. from his wallet and called up his family. Soon they got to the hospital n then Dad came back home....His relatives came to our place a couple of days later and took his scooter which Dad had kept at our place after he took the guy to the hospital....
.
.
.

We didn't have courage to call up his family & ask later about his condition, as the doctors had told us that he was in a pretty bad shape, with a critical head injury.
.
.

.
After about 6 months or so a man came to our house and Dad opened the door...his first words were "Do you recognize me sir?? I am the same guy whose life you had saved last month..." He told us that he had got 97 stitches on his head…We were elated to know that he was fit & fine now.

I still feel people are not willing to help others because they are too busy...n that stopping to help someone would disrupt their tight schedules of getting to office or home or whatever...and also the fact that the Police and people at hospitals look at you suspiciously and think that you have ulterior motives if you help someone...Though this is changing with the coming in of Ambulance services...sometimes they cannot reach on time...n u might be the only chance the person has...of surviving…so don't just drive on…when you see a serious accident....try to help so that a good deed is passed on...

"Because sometimes you need to be the change you want to see in the world"

Anyway on a more happy note...its Father's Day....Happy Father's day to you Dad....love you...

there was this staion master who took this guys phone but wasnt evn ready to make calls to teh numbers in it.. that particular cell was out of balance... n this guy didnt evn spend some money to infrm their ppl... for 2 hrs the body lies there...
